For Gambling Harm Awareness Week 2018, we provided gambling awareness training to a targeted audience of hairdressers, taxi drivers and other person-centred professionals. The training sessions, delivered by experienced clinical psychologists and educators, raised awareness and taught skills to recognise the warning signs of gambling harms, with a particular focus on online gambling.
A compact information and referral sheet was printed and distributed, providing a summary of warning signs, helpful tips and contact details for gambling help and other mental health services. These resources provided an easy option for hairdressers and taxi drivers – sometimes referred to as “informal caregivers”, to hand out relevant information, reducing the stigma associated with gambling and assisting in early identification.
